BBAA: Hi RubberDoll! Thanks for offering your time for this interview. How are you doing?
RUBBERDOLL: I’m doing quite well, thanks. I’m looking forward to chatting with you.
BBAA: With a name like RubberDoll, we know it’s all about latex! How did you choose this name and why?
RUBBERDOLL: Believe it or not, the name “RubberDoll” actually started as a screenname I used on AOL. At the time I created it, I did not yet have a website and I really hadn’t even started taking many photos. But, I had developed a very strong interest in latex clothing, which is what inspired me to take that name. Prior to that, I had been very involved in the gothic scene and was particularly interested in the fashions associcated with it. After high school, a lot of my goth friends starting going to fetish clubs and I went along with them. It was through those experiences that I was first exposed to latex clothing and I was immediately fascinated by it. So, that is how “RubberDoll” was born.
- “For me, calling myself RubberDoll is more about looking very sexy in latex, and not transforming into an actual rubber sex doll.”
BBAA: There is a big “Rubber Doll” fetish out there where people fantasize about giving pleasure to, or getting pleasure from, a human “rubber doll”: a person dressed up in latex from head to toe who would act the part of a human sex doll, obedient to all of the owner’s commands, in a latex fetish environment. Does this fetish ring a bell for you, and do you feel a connection to it in any way?
RUBBERDOLL: I’m very aware of that fetish and I do find it to be quite interesting. But, it really does not have much of a connection to my use of the name “RubberDoll”. For me, calling myself RubberDoll is more about just looking very sexy in latex, and not transforming into an actual rubber sex doll. In the first place, I tend to be much more dominant than submissive, so the concept of being a doll that is controlled by someone else is not really a natural fit for me. I also tend not to go for the “completely encased in latex” look, and I typically don’t wear hoods since I like to be creative with hair and make-up. But, I do find the “rubberdoll fetish” to be interesting and I have played with a few “rubberdolls” myself, including my friend Steffy the Rubberdoll.
BBAA: Your website www.rubberdoll.net features exquisite latex fetish photography. What brought you to pose for the camera in latex?
RUBBERDOLL: Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy the photos. I’ve always enjoyed modeling for the camera, even long before I discovered latex. When I was younger, I would often model for gothic shoots and then, as I got interested in latex, it continued and evolved into more fetish-oriented photography. At the begining, it was mostly just something I did for fun so I could let people see my outfits. But, as time progressed, I really started to take it more seriously and now I view it as a way to express my creative side.
BBAA: Judging from the preview photos on your website, it seems your sets are featuring explicit sexual activities of you with some of your guest latex models. For instance, one preview shot shows you inserting a massive red inflatable rubber dildo into a very pretty model rubbered up. Yet, other previews seem to feature more Glam latex sets. Can you tell our readers what’s your take on shooting explicit material vs shooting glam stuff?
RUBBERDOLL: One thing that I have tried to do with my website content is to offer as big of a variety as possible. Latex is a very flexible subject. It can range from a classy scene with an elegant rubber gown, to a pervy heavy rubber session with lots of kinky toys. I try to embrace both ends of the spectrum since both interest me. A lot of it has to do with what my particular inspiration is. I usually begin with a particular outfit or setting and then let it guide me to developing the entire scene. Sometimes, it takes on a little more of a glam flavor … and sometimes its a little naughtier.
- ” Latex is a very flexible subject. It can range from a classy scene with an elegant rubber gown, to a pervy heavy rubber session with lots of kinky toys.”
BBAA: What would you say the proportion is of explicit vs glam latex shots you are offering to your fans?
RUBBERDOLL: I’d say it’s a fairly balanced mix. I mean, it is all fetish-related, so everything does have a certain sexiness to it. That leads to things being a little on the explicit side. But I do try to constantly keep the moods and feelings of the scenes changing as much as possible. I do this not only to keep the viewers interested, but also to keep up with my own changing tastes and ideas.
BBAA: You seem to perform at every major fetish events these days. Do you perform mainly at fetish events, or did you ever have to perform at other events to?
RUBBERDOLL: Until recently, my performances have been mostly at fetish events. This is because those events tend to be more open to the type of shows I do. To a lot of people outside of the fetish scene, I think there is still some apprehension about having fetish performances at their events. But I think that is starting to change some. Lately, I have been doing some more work at more mainstream adult events. At first, I was a little concerned that the people at those events might not enjoy or understand what I do. But, I’ve been really surprised by the positive response. For instance, I recently did an appearance at the Exxxotica convention in Miami Beach, which is mostly for mainstream adult entertainers and porn stars. I brought along a stockade and some fetish toys and people were literally lined up outside my booth to take their turn getting dominated. I spent the entire weekend giving spankings and zapping people with my violet wand. So, I guess people are more open to new experiences than I had previously thought.
- “I spent the entire weekend at the convention giving spankings and zapping people with my violet wand.”
BBAA: Tell us about your performances, how people react to them, and why you decided to concentrate so much of your efforts on performing?
RUBBERDOLL: The reason I find doing performances so satisfying is the immediate reaction you get from the audience. With photos and videos, it is a much longer process where you don’t really get any response until weeks later. But with live performance, the feedback is instant and it provides an adreneline rush that can fuel the performance itself. I enjoy making that type of connection with an audience and it’s probably the main reason I devote so much time and energy to performing live.
BBAA: It seems we’ve been seeing you everywhere around the world this year at fetish events. How do you cope with all the traveling?
RUBBERDOLL: One of the other benefits of doing a lot of live performing is that I get to travel to all sorts of places. I would never be able to visit half the places I’ve been if it weren’t for my role as a performer. Of course, it can be grueling to constantly be on the go, but it’s also very exciting to see new places and meet new people. I am currently in Europe several times a year, as well as numerous dates across the US and Canada, and I’m always looking forward to the next trip. You only live once, and it’s a big world out there, so why not see as much of it as you can?
BBAA: You’ve made quite a name for yourself in the fetish scene in the past three years! In your opinion, why you think you are attracting so much attention?
RUBBERDOLL: That’s a tough one to answer. I think the reason might be that I really devote all of my energy to pursuing an involvement in the fetish scene. Sometimes, it’s kind of hard to really see the progress, but when I look up and find myself doing things that I could only dream of a few years ago, I can see how far I’ve come. And that is really rewarding, since there is a lot of hard work behind it. In the rush to constantly get ahead and finish the next project, sometimes we don’t appreciate the moment we are in. But, I’m happy to be where I am and I’m grateful for all the experiences I’ve had so far.
BBAA: Fetish vs Mainstream. A lot of people seem to say fetish is becoming more and more mainstream and judging from the entertainment industry, it seems they are right: videoclips from Beyonce, Rhianna, Britney, and more artists all feature a lot of latex and films use the material very often in science-fictions and the likes. Yet, it has been argued on many web fetish forums that the more fetish is becoming mainstream, the more it is loosing its appeal for true fetishists. What’s your take on this debate?
RUBBERDOLL: I’m all in favor of seeing fetish related things in the mainstream. I don’t see how it diminishes or takes away from enjoying it. In fact, I think it adds to the scene to have more people involved who can bring in fresh ideas. There is always going to be a segment of people who want to guard their fetish as their own personal thing, keeping it underground and out of sight. But, I’d rather celebrate it and share it with the world, since I think it’s a really great way to express yourself. That being said, I don’t believe it will ever be fully mainstream. You will see aspects of it here and there, but the true hardcore fetishists will always be a select group. I don’t think we are in danger of seeing latex catsuits on sale at Wal-Mart anytime soon.
- “I’d rather celebrate my fetish and share it with the world, since I think it’s a really great way to express yourself.”
BBAA: There are a lot of videos on your website, how do you like video vs photography?
RUBBERDOLL: When I shoot scenes, I typically create both photos and videos during the same shoot. That way, I end up with both a photographic and a video representation of the scene. Creating them requires a very different approach, however. With photos, you are trying to capture a single moment in time, and express a feeling with that. So, a lot more goes into creating a specific pose and holding it. Video, on the other hand, is about motion and sound so each moment is not as precisely staged, but rather an overall feeling is what you are going for. It’s really hard to say which I enjoy more, but I would tend to say I view the photographs more than the videos.
BBAA: Let’s talk about your involvement with the film “ Bianca Beauchamp All Access 2”. You are billed as being one of the four main cast of the film. How did you come to be in that film?
RUBBERDOLL: Well, I had been familiar with Bianca and Martin’s work for many years and had always admired the quality of what they produced. It always seems to be a notch above most other fetish work. However, I had never really gotten to know them until a few years ago when we were all at the Fetish Factory 11th Anniversary weekend. We had a lot of fun together and ended up spending more time together in Montreal and London not long after that. So, when it came time to film “All Access 2″ and they invited me to be involved, I was thrilled.
BBAA: How was your experience of shooting All Access 2 compared to other fetish film projects you have worked on?
RUBBERDOLL: All Access 2 was different than any of the previous video projects I’ve worked on. Most fetish films involve doing scenes that present a certain fantasy or scenario that appeals to people with a particular fetish. All Access 2 was something totally different; a reality-based look behind the scenes at a major fetish event. This is one of the main reasons I was so excited to be part of it. I had seen the first All Access and thought it really captured what its like to be involved in a multi-day fetish event. All the dressing up, partying and just the general craziness that goes along with those events was captured so well. Having spent so much time at events like this, I think it’s great to be part of a film that will document the experience to serve as a reminder of good times and as a way to share them with other people. So, I’m really excited to see how it turns out.

BBAA: Can you tell us about the other main cast members of the film and how it was for you to work with them?
RUBBERDOLL: I spend a lot of time going to fetish events around the world, so I see what fetish scenes are like in many different places. One of the things that strikes me about the Montreal scene, is the amount of creativity the people there bring to it. Whether its fashion, photography, music, film, or event planning, it seems that Montreal has a lot of people using the fetish scene to express themselves. The people involved in All Access 2 really fit into that mold. Martin is a wonderfully gifted photographer, Bianca is a gorgeous model, Mario [Polymorphe] works wonders with latex, Eric [Club Sin/Fetish Weekend] throws legendary parties, and The Richard is an amazing stylist, so working with them is a remarkable experience. And I don’t want to leave out the cast members not from Montreal. The lovely Jean Bardot is a latex icon who I’ve admired since her GwenMedia days, and Belgium Marc is a fixture on the fetish scene who dutifully documents all the kinkiness, even if it means going to every single afterparty. So, it goes without saying that working with these people on the project was a great experience. And perhaps more important than the talents that each person brings to the project, is the fact that everyone has so much fun doing it. It takes a lot of work to pull off a project like this, but with this cast it feels more like one long party.
BBAA: Do you have any funny stories or anecdotes you could tell our readers from the shooting of All Access 2?
RUBBERDOLL: There were plenty of funny moments that weekend, and there are probably even more that I can’t remember due to all the shooters that we drank. I think the funniest part for me was when one of my secret fears came out and was captured on film. On Sunday afternoon, we were all invited to a backyard party at the home of Mike and Tsenta [ED. NOTE: friends of Martin & Bianca]. It was a great way to unwind before the evening’s party, and I never miss a chance to wear latex into a hot tub! But, when we got there, I noticed that there were a lot of bees flying around in the backyard and I have a crazy fear of flying insects. Martin was able to capture one inside a plastic cup and tried to help me conquer my fear by facing the insect. I think I almost passed out.
BBAA: All Access 2 was filmed at the Montreal Fetish Weekend 2007. Since you’ve been traveling at so many fetish events, how would you describe the MTL event and your experience being part of it?
RUBBERDOLL: As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been to fetish events around the world, and I must say that Montreal Fetish Weekend is top notch. I knew it was going to be a great weekend from the day I arrived. It was a Thursday and a small informal dinner was planned at a local restaurant to kick off the upcoming weekend. Well, that “small” dinner grew and grew until the restaurant was packed wall-to-wall with fetish people. That just seemed to kick the weekend off on the right vibe and it was non-stop fun from there on out. The parties were great with outrageous fashions, edgy entertainment, and loads of kinky people. There were also plenty of other things to do, like art openings and private get togethers. It was really an amazing weekend, and I’m looking forward to enjoying it again in years to come.

BBAA: We hear between the branches that the film “Bianca Beauchamp All Access 2” might be Premiered near the Montreal Fetish Weekend 2008. Do you know when the film will be Permiered and will your fans be able to see you there?
RUBBERDOLL: Well, I’ve been hearing tid-bits here and there about the film premiere. I don’t know how much I’m at liberty to share yet, but it is sounding like it will be quite an impressive start to the Fetish Weekend 2008 festivities. I am dying to see how the film came out so I am going to do everything possible to be at the premiere. Not to mention that having the premiere at the begining of another party weekend will give us an excuse to do it all over again!
BBAA: What are your current and upcoming projects?
RUBBERDOLL: Currently, I am continuing with my ongoing projects, the primary one being my websites. I am always shooting and updating with new content on my personal website, RubberDoll.Net, as well as producing and styling for its sister site, ShinySluts.Com. I have also started including some of those scenes for release on DVD and Video-On-Demand, and plan to continue doing that in the future. My Live Performance schedule also just keeps getting busier and busier. I’m booked for solo shows as well as shows with my fetish-meets-music project, “FAQ vs. RubberDoll”, at numerous events around the globe. So, keep your eye out for me to be coming to a town near you, and if you can’t make it out to see me in person, I’m always just a mouse-click away.
BBAA: Thank you for this great interview RubberDoll! We wish you the best continuity in your success!
RUBBERDOLL: Your welcome, and thank you for such a thoughtful interview. The pleasure was mine.
